Twitter introduces team emojis for IPL 2020

Ahead of the Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Twitter introduced team emojis, which can be activated by hashtags in English and six other Indian languages.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the IPL 2020 is scheduled to happen in UAE and the matches will take place behind closed doors. Without packed stadiums, Twitter is the roar of the stadium. It’s the go-to place for passionate sports fans to connect with other fans, express their excitement, and enhance their viewing experience.

According to Twitter, through these nine emojis, the fans will be able to show instant support to their favorite team. Fans will also be able to follow and participate in live conversations.

Here are some of the hashtags that will unlock the team emojis are #PlayBold (Royal Challengers Bangalore), #OneFamily (Mumbai Indians), #WhistlePodu (Chennai Super Kings), #KorboLorboJeetbo (Kolkata Knight Riders), #SaddaPunjab (Kings XI Punjab), #OrangeArmy (Sunrisers Hyderabad), #HallaBol (Rajasthan Royals), and #YehHaiNayiDilli (Delhi Capitals).

Emojis are an integral part of social media conversations across the globe. Twitter leveraging the use of emojis through hashtags not only promotes the Emojis but also the use of relevant hashtags.

According to Chintan Vora, Founder & Director at Digital Latte, “There’s a conversation for every sporting moment on Twitter. Fans on Twitter are part of the action like never before — and they’re Tweeting about it. While stadiums might be quiet, Twitter certainly won’t be. Twitter’s new set of emojis is a boost for Sports Marketing on Twitter for the IPL teams.”

Back in 2016, Twitter launched 207 Emojis for the Rio Olympics for the fans to connect and follow the game. Tweeting with the three-letter country code hashtag it triggered flag emojis for every team. Each Olympic sport also got its own emoji, so did various events including the Opening Ceremony.

Here’s a fun fact about Emojis: As of today, there are 3178 emojis total in the Unicode Standard!

Are you a sports fan? Do you love to express through Emojis?
