Instagram Adds ‘Boost’ Option For Reels

In a major announcement, Social Media Marketing Platform, Instagram has announced that businesses can now boost their Reels to turn them into ads to reach new audiences. 

Reels, originally started as a tool to ward off the competition from Tik Tok, has become the fastest-growing format on Instagram. As per Meta, Reels make up to 20% of the time users spend on Instagram.

Users can boost reels by tapping boost post under the reel in their profile grid.The boosted Reels will appear in-feed, stories, the Reels tab and the Explore page on Instagram Profile.

However, one needs to ensure that the Reels are eligible to be boosted. Here’s what you need to know;


1. The duration of the Reels must be less than 60 seconds.

2. Your Instagram Reels should have a 9:16 aspect ratio

3. Reels that use third-party IP, such as copyrighted music, GIFs, stickers or camera filters are not eligible for boosting at this time. 

4. Reels that are posted to Facebook also aren’t eligible for boosting.

With this new feature, business’ and brands can reach out to a broader audience through their short video content on Instagram. Fastest growing content format + Powerful short videos + Ability to Boost has left every Digital Marketer licking their fingers with possibilities and imaginations.

However, it will be critical to see if the organic reach and engagement for Instagram reels follows the same suit as that of other content formats.
