Instagram launches Reels: new short-form video sharing feature

After Brazil, France, and Germany, Instagram’s newest short-form video sharing feature, Reels, is now tested in India.

Just like TikTok, people can record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools on Instagram Reels.
The Reels feature is integrated within the Instagram app itself.

Here’s how to create short-videos on Instagram Reels?

1. Open the Instagram Stories camera and find the Reels icon.

2. Choose the audio from the music library by clicking on the music icon or use custom audio.

3. Press the Play icon to speed up or slow down parts of the video.

4. Scroll to apply effects or augmented reality (AR) effects to make your video more fun.

5. Hold the record button to capture. Users can start/stop recording multiple times holding the record button.

6. Once you have created your Reel, you can share it on Instagram Stories, send it directly to a specific set of users, or add it to the new Reels tab your profile.

With India’s ban on TikTok, a lot of Indian players like  Chingari, Mitron, Moj, and Roposo are gaining traction. Do you think Instagram’s new Reels will be able to fill the video content void created by the ban on TikTok?
